The necessity of a mouthguard during sports

Published on:

A mouth guard is a necessity. In many contact sports, such as basketball, water polo, rugby and martial arts such as kickboxing and karate, it is common to wear a bit or mouthguard during training and competition. In hockey it is even mandatory to play with a mouthguard. But mouth guards are also used in sports where there is a risk of collisions or falling. By wearing a mouthguard during sports, the risk of damage to the teeth is considerably reduced. And in the unlikely event that a tooth becomes loose, the bit prevents it from falling out and can then be replaced in first aid. So make sure you have a good fitting bit. The bits you have measured after biting are the best. They stay in place better during exercise and what we find an added advantage of blue®m is that you can breathe better because of the perfect fit which provides extra oxygen for more stamina.

Your mouthguard is a breeding ground for bacteria

In addition to the advantages of a mouth guard, there are also a number of disadvantages. Not only do you regularly lose your bit, or accidentally put it in the dryer ;-), a mouthguard is also a breeding ground for bacteria. A humid and warm environment is an excellent place for bacteria to multiply. If you don’t keep your bit clean, it certainly won’t get any fresher. Many people also complain about the smell that lingers on a mouthguard.

Why you have to keep your bit clean!

But the smell is not the biggest problem, the bacteria can spread further into the body, especially if you already have inflamed gums or sores in your mouth. A dirty bit in a dry mouth is really bad, because you can use less of the body’s own defence in the saliva. And as you know, dry mouth is a common problem among athletes. But what is the best and easiest way to keep your bit clean?

This is how you keep your mouthguard clean in an easy way

blue®m has developed a special soft and safe cleaning product based on oxygen, blue®m oral foam. This product is easy and effective to use. Rinse the bit with water after training or competition. Then put the mouth protector in the holder and pump a thick layer of oral foam into the inside of the bit. Avoid deposits and tartar by filling your mouth guard with oral foam at least once a week. Then put the bit away for an hour, so that the bit cleaner can work optimally. Then brush it gently and you’re good to go!

blue®m oral foam can also be used directly in the mouth. So spray the foam in the bit and put the bit in your mouth, spit out excess foam. In this way it has a double effect: it cleans your bit and also has a caring effect on your teeth and gums.

By the way, the small 50 ml pack of foam is perfect to take with you in your sports bag.
