In loving memory Peter Blijdorp
Peter Blijdorp, retired Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, pioneer in implantology and founder of the blue®m oxygen formula, died in Arnhem on 29 November at the age of 74. His life’s goal was to enable people to recover painlessly and quickly from dental treatment. His discovery of the effect of oxygen on wound healing opened up a new world for him. He became an evangelist of oxygen technology, the beginning of our wonderful company Bluem.
Peter studied dentistry and medicine in Utrecht. It was the special combination of being an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon, dentist and doctor that made him develop such a specific, holistic vision.
“We are grateful for who he was as a person, his dedicated and innovative approach as a professional and of course for his great discovery ‘oxygen for wound healing’. Thanks to Peter, blue®m has become a great success. He was my mentor and we will miss him terribly. We will honour him by continuing his work with a heart filled with gratitude and love. says Fokke Jan Middendorp, chief healthy smiles of Bluem.
Dare to deviate from fixed regulations
Peter Blijdorp was a brave doctor with an eye for people. He was innovative and dared to go off the beaten track to help his patients in the best possible way. His vision was simple: “Be open to the latest developments and dare to go further. Don’t get limited by fixed regulations, dare to deviate from them with common sense if that will benefit the patient. Use your carpenter’s eye, make sure you can drill and screw properly and quickly! Share your knowledge with others and learn from others. Do it together. And: do everything with pleasure and, above all, with the necessary quirks, but still feel responsible. That’s how you keep your work interesting and challenging.” (Quote Peter Blijdorp in NVOI Bulletin of May 2019)
