Tips for healthy gums
Gum Health Day is an international awareness day held every year on 12 May. Its aim is to increase public awareness of the seriousness of gum disease, the health problems associated with it, and the importance of keeping our gums strong and healthy. Did you know that a healthy body starts with healthy gums? Red, swollen and sagging gums are not only very annoying but can also have serious consequences for your health.
Severe gum disease can lead to health problems in addition to the loss of teeth. For example, there are proven links between periodontitis and diabetes, cardiovascular disease, rheumatism and cancer. So, prevention is better than cure. Yet it is not that easy to keep your gums healthy. What is effective, takes little time and is easy to add to your daily routine? The blue®m team tells you their ultimate tips and tricks.

Full focus, that’s what it’s all about! And I try to take care of my mouth ‘by the book’. Using our wooden toothpicks, flossing with dental tape, scraping my tongue, taking a teeth & bone supplement every day, using a minimum of sugar and of course brushing with our own active oxygen. I also go to the dental hygienist twice a year.
Marnix Hoeve, Online Marketer at blue®m
I have to be honest, before I started working at blue®m I never really paid much attention to my oral hygiene. Of course I brushed my teeth twice a day, like everybody else. But did I really think about the importance of good oral hygiene on a daily basis? No.
Since I started working at blue®m, I notice that, subconsciously, I pay much more attention to my oral hygiene. I never had any problems, but even my dentist noticed.
My ultimate tip? Paying more attention is the key. When you realise how important good oral hygiene is, it will come naturally.

Brushing with bluem toothpaste and rinsing with bluem mouthwash is the golden combination for healthy gums! Mouthwash is ideal to reach all areas of the mouth. I recommend it to everyone, if you only use bluem toothpaste, also use the mouthwash for an optimal oxygen boost. A tiny sip after brushing is enough for optimal results. I am also a fan of wooden toothpicks, always have a pack of them close at hand so that I can carelessly use them when I am in the car or in front of the TV.

I used to think that the harder you brush, the cleaner your teeth will be. Until I started suffering from sensitive root surfaces due to receding gums. According to my dentist, I was brushing too hard and with a toothbrush that was too hard. I immediately switched to a soft toothbrush and started brushing more gently. I immediately noticed that my gums became calmer. I also started brushing with bluem toothpaste. This was a relief because my gums were extra sensitive to cold food and drink. Every time I had a cold drink or meal, I experienced sharp pains in my mouth. Thanks to the ingredients in bluem toothpaste, this sensitivity disappeared and my root surfaces were protected. So for me, I will never use another toothpaste again and I will always brush (softly) with an extra ultra soft toothbrush!
Klaas-Bart Teune, Purchase Manager at blue®m
My ultimate tip is to brush with a soft toothbrush, which is gentle for the gums and great for brushing your teeth, because of the wide brush, it covers the entire surface that you are brushing, for example the side of a molar. And of course I use it together with fluoride free toothpaste.
