Holiday wisdom!

Let’s play a game, shall we? I’m going on a holiday and I’m bringing… What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Besides a good book and your swimwear, you will probably also bring your toothbrush and toothpaste. ‘Cause wherever you go, your oral health care is going with you. In this blogpost we will provide you some tips for oral care whilst enjoying your well deserved beach days!

1. Brush… yeah, sure!

‘Of course’ – is probably your first thought. But, it doesn’t seem so obvious to continu daily routines whilst being on a holiday. Research has shown us that we brush less diligently, we prefer a manual toothbrush and we clean less between our teeth with a toothpick or floss. Our advice? Make sure you create 2 moments a day to clean your teeth, especially before you go to bed. Because let’s be honest.. It would be unfortunate when you see your dentist after your beloved holiday and get a painful souvenir, right?

2. Toothbrush… check!

Did you keep some space in your suitcase for your electric toothbrush? Great job! We will give you a pat on the back for that. But keep in mind that not every country has the same wall outlets. So, bringing a universal plug would be mindful, just to make sure that you can brush your teeth across the borders. Do you prefer to brush manually? Put a new and extra soft toothbrush in your toiletry bag! This will ensure that potential bacteria don’t increase and prevent a mouth infection.

3. Bring toothpicks or floss

Whilst enjoying a great glass of wine, delicious olives are served with some cocktail sticks. After you’ve eaten one, you decide to use the cocktail stick to reach the narrowest spaces between your teeth, thinking ‘also did my interdental cleaning for today’. But, never ever use these cocktail sticks as toothpicks. Because of its round shape they don’t fit well between your teeth and they will damage your gums. Additional interdental cleaning is great and recommended, but make sure you choose the right products like toothpicks or floss to elevate your oral health care.

4. Traveling with oral problems

Even if you have oral problems, you still want to travel. Make sure you have enough oral care products with you to take care of your teeth. Do you suffer from inflamed gums or have you just had a dental procedure? Then make sure you always have a tube of oral gel with you, as it will accelerate wound healing.
And should the situation worsen during your holiday abroad, it’s wise to check if your health insurance reimburses the costs of medically necessary dental care abroad. So… that means you’ll dive into the conditions of your insurance policy first.

Prepare yourself for traveling

What if you could lift your oral care and stretch it during your days? Take your oral care routines to your favorite holiday destination.

5. Rinse, even green tea is an option!

Imagine… You’ve just eaten a nice and exotic meal, but unfortunately you don’t have the opportunity to brush your teeth afterwards. At least try to rinse your teeth so that little pieces of food don’t stick to your teeth. Our on-the-go mouthwash fits into every handbag and the active oxygen in it will boost your overall health. No mouthwash available? Rinsing or drinking water will be an alternative. Every sip rinses your mouth and reduces the acids in your mouth which are caused by the bacteria in your mouth. Drinking herbal or green tea will also prevent the bacteria in your mouth from having a chance of doing harm.

6. Cheating is allowed!

The only trip you will regret is the one you did not make.. So of course we understand that continuing your diet whilst being on a vacation, is not on top of your priority list. But, it is recommended to stay aware of the food and drinks you consume. Especially on a holiday we are inclined to have our cheat meals and that’s totally fine… Just remember, balance is key! So if you got tempted to eat a sweet local specialty, which you hopefully enjoyed.. Try to eat a sugar free dental gum afterwards. Research has shown us that chewing gum after a meal could make a difference for your mouth and overall health. It removes bacteria from the chewing surfaces and it stimulates the saliva production which is determinative for your overall health.

We believe that life is a miracle, so we’d like to make sure that you travel with no regrets.. Enjoy your beach days!

Get ready for your holiday!
